Beyond Compliance: Enabling Effective Financial Oversight by Boards

This event is now fully booked. Add your name to the waiting list.

Tuesday 11 September 2018. 5:00 pm - 6:30 pm

Registration from 4.30pm.

This interactive session for Chairs will help you explore how you can enable your board to undertake this governance task effectively.

Financial oversight is one of the Board’s key roles and Boards need to get assurance that the charity is operating within the rules. But just complying is not enough for good governance.

Chairs need to work on helping the Board to address the key financial challenges facing the charity, as a basis for making well-founded decisions. Keeping discussions strategic, you need to know that someone is attending to the detail.

This briefing for Chairs will reference the principles in the 2017 version of Charity Governance Code and will include:

  • Helping your board focus on the financial issues that really matter
  • Monitoring progress and achievement
  • Decision-making and delegation
  • Relationships – consideration of some helpful board structures and processes e.g. the role and work of sub- committees; treasurer role; working effectively with staff
