Ruth Lesirge - Honorary President

I'm co-founder of the Association of Chairs. I served as a trustee and was the organisation’s second Chair (2014-2019), before being appointed President. I now work with the Chief Executive on events and other operational areas.

My voluntary sector work includes serving as Chief Executive of two national charities, as Vice Chair of ACEVO and as a trustee on several boards, including those of the London Film School, Bishopsgate Institute and a bereavement project. I have also led a consultancy practice for 16 years, as well as much pro bono work with third sector leaders.

I began my career in education, teaching and managing programmes for adolescent non-readers, adult literacy students and women returning to learning. I was Principal of a London adult education service before moving to the voluntary sector.

"The Association of Chairs is on a journey, encouraging Chairs to focus on enabling their boards to steer and add value to the work of their organisations. My ambition is for the Association to continue to be welcoming and relevant, a place where Chairs and Vice Chairs can share, debate and learn together – and encourage a new generation of effective Chairs who are skilled, diverse and committed."
