Beyond Compliance: Enabling Effective Financial Oversight by Boards
Tuesday 11 September 2018 5:00 pm - 6:30 pm

Registration from 4.30pm.

This interactive session for Chairs will help you explore how you can enable your board to undertake this governance task effectively.

Financial oversight is one of the Board’s key roles and Boards need to get assurance that the charity is operating within the rules.  But just complying is not enough for good governance.

Chairs need to work on helping the Board to address the key financial challenges facing the charity, as a basis for making well-founded decisions. Keeping discussions strategic, you need to know that someone is attending to the detail.

After the safeguarding scandal: what lessons for Chairs?
Wednesday 18 July 2018 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm London

The Oxfam and Save The Children revelations have had a huge impact on the charity sector and have raised many issues: about safeguarding, about trust, about charity ethics, about transparency and accountability, and about governance and oversight. The ramifications go far beyond the international aid sector.  And in this era of #metoo and #timesup the concept of safeguarding is being redefined by some beyond protecting children and vulnerable beneficiaries to cover workplace dignity and all stakeholder relationships.  There are further lessons in preparing for and handling crises and dealing with the media.

This event is open to Chairs and Vice Chairs although priority for places is given to our members.

Serious incidents- how to recognise and survive them.
Wednesday 27 June 2018 10:00 am - 1:00 pm London

Charities are increasingly in the headlines for the wrong reasons. Even in well-run charities things can and do go wrong, sometimes badly so. If they do, there are steps you are expected to take. This joint event with the Charity Commission focuses on what the Chair needs to know about handling serious incidents, including recognising and reporting them. Our discussion will focus on a case study. Sarah Atkinson, Director of Policy will guide us through the issues, and there will be opportunities to discuss the matters raised with a range of Charity Commission staff.

This event is open to Chairs and Vice Chairs although priority for places is given to our members.
