To give you an idea of the range of events we hold we have listed our past events below. In 2015 we hosted over 20 professional development and networking events for Chairs across the UK. Members can obtain summaries of some of these events from the members area of the website.


Being an Effective Chair - Live Webinar

Haven’t had time to attend one of our workshops?  Would like a refresher?  This webinar covers the core content covered in the Beacon Programme’s ‘Being an Effective Chair’ workshop. The live webinar is an introduction to the role of Chair, providing those chairing smaller charities (with an annual income under £1 million) with top tips and tools to help them be more effective in their role.

This webinars is only open to those who have registered with the Beacon Programme. If you are the Chair or Vice Chair of a smaller charity in England with an annual income of under £1 million, please join the programme and then book your place.

Strengthening your Organisation

Come along to this second Beacon workshop in St Austell which aims to provide you with the knowledge and tools to ensure your charity has the strategy, resources and processes to succeed. This workshop will help you to be clear about what needs to be in place and ensure that it happens. It will support you to identify the boundaries between planning and overseeing the work and the separate task of carrying it out. You will have the opportunity to share learning and sources of support with Chairs of other smaller organisations.

We offer a travel bursary to delegates from organisations with an income under £100k when booking at least a month ahead. These bursaries are given on a first come, first served, basis.

Civil Society Futures debate: enabling deeper connection and accountability

The Civil Society Futures inquiry found that civil society needs to change to be fit for the future and challenges leaders and others in civil society to re-examine and renew our behaviours, attitudes and practices. New Chairs' Briefing Session
Wednesday 20 March 2019 2:00 pm - 5:00 pm
EC4A, London (exact location confirmed on booking)

This workshop is aimed at Chairs who are new in post or about to take up the post. The focus is on the role in practice, for example looking at preparing and chairing board meetings, working with your CEO/lead officer, as well as building a collaborative and effective governing body.

The event is free to members who also have priority booking. Non members are welcome to attend at a cost of £40.
