Dynamic Duo – Balancing the Roles Between Chair and CEO
Thursday 7 November 2019 10:30 am - 4:00 pm N1, London

When the relationship between Chair and Chief Executive is strong – they are a ‘dynamic duo’ – both adding value to the organisation. When the relationship is in trouble the organisation suffers. This event explores how to balance the roles and how to bring out the best in each other by looking at the CEO/Chair relationship from both perspectives. It is an opportunity for you to hear from and share ideas with your peers. Topics that will be covered include: what does the relationship look like when it works well, practical realities and experiences from Chairs and CEOs, and how to establish and develop a supportive culture and deal with conflict.

Members’ dinner with Patti Whaley: Feminist principles in governance – ActionAid UK’s journey
Wednesday 6 November 2019 6:30 pm - 8:30 pm Bookings will open on 2 October
EC4V, London (exact location confirmed on booking)

Three years ago, Action Aid UK took the decision that its governance and operations should be guided by ‘feminist principles’. Core to their thinking was acknowledgement of the inherent imbalance in the power relationship with the people and countries with whom they work, and a desire to draw on the ideas and skills of as many people as possible and  to work in cooperation rather than competition, with less focus on the leadership of one or a few individuals.

At this members’ dinner, former Chair of Action Aid Patti Whaley will explain why a feminist governance model was adopted, what it is and how it has evolved. This will include sharing the 10 guiding principles that now shape their work at every level. She’ll share what it means in practice for board conduct; what has worked well and what the challenges have been.
