To give you an idea of the range of events we hold we have listed our past events below. In 2015 we hosted over 20 professional development and networking events for Chairs across the UK. Members can obtain summaries of some of these events from the members area of the website.


June supper club with guest speaker Dr Rowan Williams

“Integrity and identity in a secular world – the challenges for faith-based charities”

We are delighted to announce that Baron Williams of Oystermouth, better known as Dr Rowan Williams, former Archbishop of Canterbury and now Chair of Christian Aid will be speaking at our next event, a tea in June. He will speak on the topic of “Integrity and identity in a secular world- the challenges for faith-based charities”.

Charitable and not-for-profit bodies with roots in diverse faiths and religious history have in common the challenge of maintaining their religious and faith-based integrity whilst serving our society in all its diversity. The talk will be followed by discussion of the key issues raised

April Supper Club With Guest Speaker Stephen Dawson

“MAKING MERGERS WORK – THE FOUNDER’S STORY”
With guest speaker Stephen Dawson, founder of Impetus Trust, now Impetus-PEF
After a very successful first Supper Club in February with Julia Unwin, we are pleased to invite members to join us for a second evening in April with guest speaker Stephen Dawson, who will share his experiences of merging the charity and social investment vehicle Impetus Trust with the Private Equity Foundation to form Impetus-PEF.  For the founder of Impetus, this was a personal as well as a managerial challenge, which will lead on to the evening addressing the wider lessons for considering and executing mergers.

February Supper Club - with special guest Julia Unwin

We’re excited to announce our first ever supper club for members on 11th February. We are delighted to have as our guest speaker Julia Unwin, who has a reputation for her insightful work on governance. The event is kindly being sponsored by CCLA.

The presentation will be entitled Reflections on governance in tough times and Julia will reflect on her experience of governance, both as an executive and as a board member in public, private and charitable settings. She will consider what particular challenges governing bodies face in changing times.

Julia Unwin is Chief Executive of the Joseph Rowntree Foundation and the Joseph Rowntree Housing Trust and is known for her extensive research and writing on the role, governance and funding of the voluntary sector. She was a member of the Housing Corporation Board for 10 years and a Charity Commissioner from 1998-2003. Julia was also Deputy Chair of the Food Standards Agency and worked as an independent consultant operating within government and the voluntary and corporate sectors.

Our first ever New Members Event

We are starting the year with a networking reception kindly sponsored by Saxton Bampfylde. The reception will be an opportunity for members to meet and network with fellow chairs and hear about our plans for the first year.  We also want to hear members’ views and priorities so that together we can shape the organisation so it is relevant and stimulating for you.

Inaugural Launch Event
Thursday 24 October 2013 6:00 pm - 7:30 pm

John Gladwin, Chair of the newly formed Association of Chairs, invites you as a Chair of your organisation to our upcoming event for non profit Chairs.

Join us on the night to show your support and help us build this important Association.  We aim to create a community of Chairs who are professional, effective and recognised for the quality of their governance practice.

You will hear from a distinguished panel of speakers on the key role of the Chair in nonprofit organisations and find out more about us.
