Why join?

Join the Association of Chairs, the voice of Chairs of charities and non-profit organisations. Become a member of the Association of Chairs so you can enjoy these benefits:

A unique peer network

We create opportunities for Chairs, Vice Chairs and former Chairs to come together and share experiences and learning at a range of events.

Chair-focused seminars, speakers and briefings

We hold events specifically for Chairs. These range from small dinners, to briefing sessions and sector based events. For some events we post a short summary or briefing in the members area of our website – so you can benefit even if you cannot attend.

Resources specifically for Chairs & Vice Chairs

As a new member you’ll receive a free print copy of:
A Chair’s Compass – a guide for Chairs of charities and non-profit organisations. It focuses entirely on the Chair’s perspective and the particular challenges and opportunities of the role. (This is usually priced at £25):

If you are paying the higher membership fee you will also receive:
A Question of Balance – a guide to the Chair and Chief Executive relationship. It looks at how to forge a successful relationship with your Chief Executive. (This is usually priced at £25):

All members gain access to newly-developed resources written specifically for Chairs in our members only area.

A regular, practical e-newsletter

Read our monthly e-newsletter with relevant news and practical resources to help you lead your board to govern effectively.

Research, insight and analysis

We are keen to research and share good practice. One of our first steps was to commission a literature review to understand what was already known about the effectiveness of non profit Chairs. This is available to members in the members only area of the website. We will undertake further research as resources allow.

A voice for Chairs

We champion your role as a Chair of a charity or non-profit organisation. We seek funding for new resources, host professional development events and highlight the importance of the role of Chairs to key decision makers.

In development

When resources allow we are keen to develop:

  • a peer mentoring scheme for our members
  • an active online community of Chairs.

As a new organisation we are continually developing our offer to members. We welcome feedback and are keen to develop our services in response to members’ feedback.

Annual membership costs just £50 or £100 depending on your organisation’s income.
