We run a range of events for Chairs and Vice Chairs - including briefings, workshops, talks by guest speakers, panel discussions and our member only supper clubs. Our events provide an opportunity for you to learn more about the role of chairing, stay up to date with the latest practice and trends in the sector as well as giving you a chance to meet and network with other Chairs.


Dynamic Duo – Balancing the Roles Between Chair and CEO

When the relationship between Chair and Chief Executive is strong – they are a ‘dynamic duo’ – both adding value to the organisation. When the relationship is in trouble the organisation suffers. This event explores how to balance the roles and how to bring out the best in each other by looking at the CEO/Chair relationship from both perspectives. It is an opportunity for you to hear from and share ideas with your peers. Topics that will be covered include: what does the relationship look like when it works well, practical realities and experiences from Chairs and CEOs, and how to establish and develop a supportive culture and deal with conflict.

This is a great opportunity to to develop your skills and share experiences of managing relationships and board dynamics and how to strengthen your organisation. Lunch is included to give you more time to network with fellow Chairs and Vice Chairs of smaller charities.

This workshop is only open to those who have registered with the free Beacon Programme. If you are the Chair or Vice Chair of a smaller charity in England with an annual income of under £1 million, please join the programme and then book your place.

Getting the best from your Chief Executive is a key responsibility for Chairs.
This event focuses on our guide Appraising your Chief Executive, part of our Chair’s Challenges series generously supported by Odgers Berndtson. It explores why appraising your CEO matters and how to make the appraisal process work well. It highlights what already exists that is relevant and useful; shares practical experience from Chairs and others, and offers ideas and suggestions for how you can manage this important challenge.




New Chairs' Briefing Session

This workshop is aimed at Chairs who are new in post or about to take up the post. The focus is on the role in practice, for example looking at preparing and chairing board meetings, working with your CEO/lead officer, as well as building a collaborative and effective governing body.

Members can access the event for £30 and have priority booking. Non members are welcome to attend at a cost of £90.
