Serious incidents- how to recognise and survive them.

Wednesday 27 June 2018. 10:00 am - 1:00 pm London

Joint event with the Charity Commission

Charities are increasingly in the headlines for the wrong reasons. Even in well-run charities things can and do go wrong, sometimes badly so. If they do, there are steps you are expected to take. This joint event with the Charity Commission focuses on what the Chair needs to know about handling serious incidents, including recognising and reporting them. Our discussion will focus on a case study. Jane Hobson, Head of Guidance and Practice will guide us through the issues, and there will be opportunities to discuss the matters raised with a range of Charity Commission staff. We will also hear from Helen Stephenson, Chief Executive of the Charity Commission.

By the end of the session you will:

• Be confident you can recognise a serious incident
• Understand the Charity Commission’s expectations of your charity
• Know what you can expect from the Charity Commission
• Have ideas for preventing, managing and surviving a serious incident.

If you need a reminder of what a serious incident is and how to report it see this guidance from the Charity Commission (last updated in September 2017).

A light lunch will be provided.

This event is open to Chairs and Vice Chairs although priority for places is given to our members.
