Tuesday 15 September 2015. 8:30 am - 10:00 am

In this age of 24/7 news cycles, with the instant impact of the internet and social media, and increasing scepticism and challenge around public institutions, the reputation of your organisation is fragile and constantly at risk.

It takes years of hard work and effective communications to build trust and confidence in your organisation but it’s essential – your charity’s reputation is vital to effective service delivery, successful fundraising and to growth. In an increasingly complex environment, it must be actively protected, as failing to do so can be a major risk issue, and one to which every Chair should be alert and should think about.

John Kelly, a Partner in Harbottle & Lewis LLP’s Media & Information Group, will discuss Board-led strategies for protecting your charity’s reputation, and will provide an insight into the Do’s & Don’ts of working through a media crisis.  The session, which is planned as a participative workshop, will be chaired by the Association’s Vice Chair, John Williams, who is a co-founder and former Chair of the public relations company Fishburn and will add his own insights.

John Kelly is a Partner at Harbottle & Lewis; he is recognised as an expert in the field of reputation protection and defamation. He specialises in advising leading individuals and corporate clients on how to protect their rights and reputations. Clients include successful individuals and companies in the areas of business, financial services, sport, music, film and television.

John Williams has had a long career in advertising, marketing and public relations, and has advised a wide range of major organisations on their reputation and brand, in a number of challenging sectors, from Shell and McDonald’s to Starbucks, Novartis and Barclays; he has also helped many clients in the non-profit sector, from Scope to Barnardo’s.
