Developing an Effective Board
Do your trustees work well together? Are you able to deal with conflict effectively?
As Chair, your role includes enabling your board to work well together and supporting your trustees to resolve any conflict. This might mean having difficult conversations with one or more of your trustees to confront problematic behaviours.
This pilot workshop aims to provide you with practical guidance and tools to help you develop the board as a team and give you the confidence to deal with any conflict at an early stage. This workshop has been developed with the complexities of chairing a smaller organisation in mind (with an annual income of under £1 million); such as working with a smaller number of trustees and individuals often having both operational and governance roles. You will have the opportunity to share learning and sources of support with Chairs of other smaller organisations.
Outcomes
By the end of this pilot workshop you will be able to:
- Enable your board to work well together
- Manage conflict and support difficult conversations
- Put in place succession plans for your role as Chair
- Gain insights and top tips from other Chairs of smaller organisations
