Dynamic Duo – Balancing the Roles Between Chair and CEO

This event is now fully booked. Add your name to the waiting list.

Wednesday 22 November 2017. 10:30 am - 3:30 pm

When the relationship between Chair and Chief Executive is strong – they are a ‘dynamic duo’ – both adding value to the organisation. When the relationship is in trouble the organisation suffers. This event explores how to balance the roles and how to bring out the best in each other.

When ACEVO and Association of Chairs last held this event together it was heavily oversubscribed, and very well received, so we are holding it again. The event looks at the CEO/Chair relationship from both perspectives. It is an opportunity for you to hear from and share ideas with your peers. Topics that will be covered include: what does the relationship look like when it works well, practical realities and experiences from Chairs and CEOs, and how to establish and develop a supportive culture and deal with conflict.

Programme outline
There will be opportunities to work in pairs and in groups. We will cover three main areas:

  • Question of Balance – a framework for exploring different dimensions of the relationship.
Led by Ros Oakley, Executive Director, Association of Chairs
  • Chair and CEO practicalities – Interview and Q&A session with Chair and CEO pairs.
Led by Jenny Berry, Director of Leadership & Governance, ACEVO.
Interviewees include: Mike Parker Chair and Matt Stevenson-Dodd CEO from Street League and Sarah Hughes CEO and Dr Elizabeth Vallance Chair – Centre for Mental Health
  • When you need help; the role of coaching and meditation led by David Liddle, CEO of the TCM Group. David will explore the nature of conflict particularly between Chairs and CEOs and consider new approaches for managing conflict, and alignment with organisational values. He will work with the group to consider how Chairs and CEOs can work together to promote a healthy, happy and harmonious workplace culture.

Kindly sponsored by Cazenove Capital, the event will be held in central London on 22 November (10.30 to 3.30pm).
Chairs and Chief Executives are both welcome; we particularly recommend you come as a pair. It’s a good opportunity to take stock of and review how you are working together.

The event is open to all. AoC and ACEVO members receive a discount and priority booking (only one of you needs to be a member for you both to get a discount).

Please note that if you book for this event we will share your name, organisation and contact details with ACEVO.
