Briefing session for New Chairs

Monday 15 December 2014. 2:00 pm - 4:30 pm

This session is aimed specifically at new Chairs or those about to take up the role.

We will focus on the role in practice, for example looking at preparing and chairing board meetings, working with your CEO/lead officer if you have one, as well as building a collaborative and effective governing body.

The session will also explore the leadership skills and knowledge that will make you the most effective Chair you can become – and the support that you might need.

The emphasis will be on the strengths you bring, as well as the ‘gaps’ you want to fill. And we will offer some tips that might be useful in your particular setting.

 Outcomes

By the end of this session, participants will have:

  • covered the basics regarding the legal duties of their board
  • explored approaches to their management of the role
  • had an opportunity to network with other Chairs
  • considered priorities for their own development and support.

This event is free to members who also get priority booking. It is £25 for non-members. (It’s better value if you join us, then you can come to the workshop and enjoy all the benefits of membership for a year).

We plan to run this event regularly if there is sufficient demand. We are considering the following locations for future sessions: Newcastle, Manchester, Leeds, Bristol and Birmingham. Please do let us know if you are interested in attending a future event and if so your preferred locations.

We would like to thank Punter Southall for hosting this event.
