A new briefing for members on fundraising regulation and data protection

Following our packed meeting for this highly topical issue, we have produced a briefing for Chairs including some useful questions for boards to assist their oversight, which you can find in the members’ section of our website. Our thanks to our seminar speakers who contributed to this summary: Gerald Oppenheim, Head of Policy and Communications at the Fundraising Regulator, and Lawrie Simanowitz, charity partner at Bates Wells and Braithwaite, at the offices of CCLA.

They gave us an overview of current legislation, regulation and new guidance, covering the Fundraising Regulator, the Information Commissioner’s Office and the imminent EU GDPR – the General Data Protection Regulation. The latter comes into force in 2018, tightens rules on consent and will not be affected our decision to exit the EU – it will replace the Data Protection Act.
