APRIL SUPPER CLUB
“MAKING MERGERS WORK – THE FOUNDER’S STORY”
With guest speaker Stephen Dawson, founder of Impetus Trust, now Impetus-PEF
DATE: 30 April 2014
TIME: 6pm – 8pm
ADDRESS: CCLA, 85 Queen Victoria Street, London EC4V 4ET
After a very successful first Supper Club in February with Julia Unwin, we are pleased to invite members to join us for a second evening in April with guest speaker Stephen Dawson, who will share his experiences of merging the charity and social investment vehicle Impetus Trust with the Private Equity Foundation to form Impetus-PEF. For the founder of Impetus, this was a personal as well as a managerial challenge, which will lead on to the evening addressing the wider lessons for considering and executing mergers.
One of the first venture capitalists in the UK, Stephen was involved for 25 years with ECI, which specialises in mid-market buy-outs; he is now non-executive chairman. He was named Personality of the Year at the Private Equity Awards in 2007. He is a co-founder and former chairman of Impetus Trust, which has pioneered venture philanthropy in the UK; he led Impetus into its merger with the Private Equity Foundation last year, and he remains a trustee of the merged organisation, Impetus-PEF.
Stephen was awarded an OBE in 2010 and a Beacon Award for Pioneering Philanthropy in 2013. He is now co-founder and chairman of Jacana Partners, the pan-African SME investment
company, which aims to deliver strong and sustainable financial and social returns.
